Youth Leadership Development
Legacy Leaders believes in the inherent capacity of today’s youth to be confident, purposeful, and conscientious leaders within their surroundings. This belief motivates our efforts to help students develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and strategies to navigate academic and professional settings successfully.
The Legacy Leaders model was developed with the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) theory in mind. Our curriculum acknowledges that understanding one’s feelings and aspirations cultivates self-awareness, establishes a sense of belonging, and builds interpersonal skills necessary for positive relationships. Through instruction and coaching, Legacy Leader’s approach to Social and Emotional Learning helps students understand the value, purpose, and identity of who they are.
Goals of the Social and Emotional Learning Model:
Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success.
Use social awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.
Demonstrate healthy decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, and community contexts. (Transforming Students’ Lives with Social and Emotional Learning)
Legacy Leaders curriculum emphasizes the unique needs of youth between the ages of 13 and 17 from urban settings, focusing on teaching them valuable life skills and leadership traits. We also tailor certain topics to the specific needs of our school partners to create mass-scale keynote addresses for school assemblies, orientation programs, and other school-wide events. Workshops range from 90 minutes and are taught through multimedia tools and various experiential exercises.

EXPERIENTIAL FIELD TRIPS
The Legacy Leaders curriculum can be described as leadership in action. We encourage our program participants to enhance their leadership experience beyond the classroom. As such, we organize experiential field trips to allow students the opportunity of maximizing their learning through hands-on practice. These trips include United Airlines, Nova Quarter Horses, Depaul University, Northwestern University, Loyola University, Pacific Garden Mission, Elk Grove Leadership Course, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago Fire Major League Soccer, Chicago History Museum, Art Museum, U.s. Capital Building, U.s. Holocaust Museum, and the American History Museum.
